This icon allows the demo user to adjust the demo volume. An Exit Demo icon is also available for inclusion on the demo interface if selected during the demo installation. SYSTEM SECURITY FEATURES: As mentioned above, the Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Processor Europe Demo, Back-to-School 2001 provides extensive system security measures to prevent unwanted tampering with the PC's software and configuration. 1.) Runtime validation of demo files This feature confirms that all of the demo files (.AVI, .WAV, etc.) are valid each time the demo is launched. If some- thing has happened to any of these files, the Demo will be prevented from running. 2.) "Hidden" exit command This security feature is available if you DO NOT choose to include the Exit Demo Icon on the demo interface. The ESC-I command to exit the demo is not visible to customers, so the chance of a customer exiting the demo (and damaging the system is slim). 3.) "Screen Saver" Launch of demo If the system is sitting idle at a Windows screen, a screen saver- like program called "Pentium(R) 4 Processor" relaunches the Demo (unless feature 1 detects corrupt files) after a user defined period of time (default is set to 5 minutes). This feature can be disabled from within the Windows Control Panel but it will get re-enabled the next time the demo is started. 4.) Shell Restoration Feature The demo's installation program prevents problems that occur when more than one Intel Retail Demo is installed on a system. Also, installation adds a CHKSHL32.EXE command to the registry that will restore the SHELL= line to a valid entry if improperly set. The default value is EXPLORER.EXE. ADDITIONAL NOTES ON SYSTEM SECURITY: If you are using additional software packages in conjunction with the demo for security measures, you should be aware of the alterations such programs may make to your system. Some packages are known to 'revector' BIOS routines, as well as alter File Allocation Tables and Boot Partitions. Such actions may cause problems with system performance and function. The Demo will make only minor alterations to the AUTOEXEC.BAT, SYSTEM.INI, and MSDOS.SYS files, all of which can be restored by using the UNINSTAL.EXE file in the demo's directory. TO ENSURE GREAT PERFORMANCE OF THE DEMO, MAKE CERTAIN THAT NO OTHER APPLICATIONS ARE RUNNING SIMULTANEOUSLY. UNNECESSARY PROGRAMS CAN QUICKLY CONSUME VALUABLE MEMORY AND DIMINISH PERFORMANCE. TROUBLESHOOTING: **Installation** If you receive a message indicating that you have a previous demo installed on the system, you should check to be sure that you have uninstalled any previous demos. If you have verified that all demos are uninstalled and continue to receive this message, please contact the technical support line for assistance. **Virtual Pool* 3 not available** If you receive a message indicating that the Virtual Pool 3 game is not available for play, you can try the following to correct the problem: 1. Make sure Hardware Acceleration is turned on: - Right-click on the system's desktop. - Select the "Properties" option. - Go to the "Settings" tab. - Select the "Advanced" button. - Go to the "Performance" tab. - Under the Graphics - Hardware Acceleration option, slide the bar all the way to "Full". - Select the "Apply" button. - Click "OK". - You may be prompted to restart the system for the new settings to take place. 2. Make sure the system's audio device is enabled: - Click on the Start button on the system's taskbar. - Go to the "Settings" option. - Open the "Control Panel" option. - Select the "System" option. - Click on the "Device Manager" tab. - Select the Sound/Audio Device option. - Click on the audio card device listed under this option. - Click on the "Properties" button for the audio card device. - Under the Device Usage section, make sure that the "Disable in this hardware profile" is NOT checked. - Click "OK". - You may be prompted to restart the system for the new settings to take place. If neither of these suggestions fix the problem, you may need to reinstall the Demo. (c)1986-2001, Advanced Computer Graphics, Inc. and its licensors. All Rights Reserved. (c)2001 Intel Corporation.
